Spokane Industries taps niche

SPOKANE, WA-Spokane Industries, Inc., the longtime castings and metal fabricated product manufacturer here, says it's experiencing mostly steady sales growth companywide and finding encouraging market expansion opportunities in its custom stainless steel fabrication division.

In particular, it points to the successes it's had to date in tapping niche demand for large beverage tanks that it's producing for storing and processing wine, beer, and spirits, and for its mobile aviation vacuum fuel drain systems.

Schultz Ranch subdivision clears hurdle

The initial phase of a 424-house subdivision at Carson City's south edge moved a big step closer to real activity this year due to a Thursday vote by the Board of Supervisors.

That word came from Dean Wingert, who heads Crown West Land Group and is vice president of Crown West Realty, LLC, both in Arizona, after the unanimous board tally to approve and accept the Schultz Ranch landscape maintenance district petition and the Schultz Ranch maintenance district development agreement. The first phase envisions 100 lots, but delays the craft petition and agreement language to suit board members and others took longer than expected.

Etailz Inc., a Spokane-based e-commerce retailer, has leased about 7,200 square feet at the Spokane Business & Industrial Park in Spokane Valley. The new space is primarily for use as a warehouse processing facility.

Etailz's headquarters remain in the McKinstry Innovation Center, at 850 E. Spokane Falls Blvd.

The company, which originally launched under the name Green Cupboards, operates five e-commerce websites that offer environmentally friendly products. It also runs two Spokane brick-and-mortar stores: Wollnick's General Store, at 421 W. Mail Ave., and Coy Beauty, at 227 W. Riverside Ave.

Walker's Furniture expands facilities

Walker's Furniture & Mattress is completing a 35,000-square-foot expansion of its distribution center and warehouse at the Spokane Business & Industrial Park in Spokane Valley.

The Spokane-based retailer is expanding because of fast growth in sales and of its mattress line, says co-owner Gary Absalonson.

The company moved its then-120,000-square-foot warehouse into the business park in 2013. Continuing growth led to the expansion into a vacant building next door.

The company has more than 160 employees, with 54 of them at the distribution center, Absalonson said.

Started in 1980, the privately owned company now has 12 locations in the Inland Northwest, the Tri-Cities, Yakima, Walla Walla, Wenatchee and Eastern Oregon.

Core-Mark signs 15-year lease at expanded facility


SPOKANE, WA- Core-Mark International Inc., the big San Francisco-based general merchandise distributor, is expanding its Spokane Valley distribution center with a 50,000-square-foot addition.

Including the addition, Core-Mark will occupy 150,000 square feet of floor space in the Spokane Business & Industrial Park, says Dean Stuart, director of marketing for Crown West Realty LLC, who brokered a 15-year lease for the expanded space.

Stuart says the total value of the project which will include freezer and cooler space, likely will be $5 million.

Construction is expected to start around July 1 with a project completion goal of Nov. 1, Stuart says.
